ROLE & PURPOSE. The role of a maintenance fitter involves plant and machinery installation, maintenance and repairs, replacement of broken or worn parts and servicing. Problem solving also makes up a large component of the role of a fitter. KEY QUALITIES Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the trade area post apprenticeship or relevant experience within a similar industry. FETAC Level 6 accreditation or equivalent including but not limited to Solas (formally FÁS) apprenticeship, City & Guilds apprenticeship or higher. Ability to read drawings, follow detailed work instructions and procedures. Interest in ensuring quality of work standards are high. Strong attention to detail. Problem solving skills. Written and verbal communication skills. Good numerical ability. It is desirable that applicants will have experience in these areas from Railway, Automotive or Aeronautics industry. ICT skills. Competencies. Concern for quality and safe working practices. Ability to communicate effectively with others. Ability to make effective decisions. Ability to analyze and solve problems. Motivated to follow written instructions / guidelines and undertake checks. The ability to work alone and with others without constant or close supervision. General Responsibilities Carrying out of servicing / running maintenance of trains in accordance with vehicle maintenance instructions. Removal and replacement of components from trains. Overhauling of components. Carrying out modifications or inspections in accordance with specified instructions. Adheres to safe working practice at all times. Repair of components/ systems. Keeps his / her work environment clean and organised. Engaging in cross skilling duties where required. Fault-finding and defect rectification. Modifications and heavy maintenance across a range of systems, including but not limited to; traction engines and systems, bogies, pneumatics and braking systems, AC/ DC systems, door systems and electronics such as Passenger Information Systems and CCTV.
