Description

The Department of Rural and Community Development is a new Government Department established in July 2017 to create a renewed and consolidated focus on rural and community development in Ireland. Its mission is to promote rural and community development and to support vibrant, inclusive and sustainable communities throughout Ireland. Reporting to the Secretary General, the Head of Corporate and Strategic Development has overall responsibility for leading and growing the Department’s strategic policy development, policy co-ordination, research and evaluation, HR, finance, governance and other business support functions to strengthen the Department’s capacity to deliver on overall objectives for rural and community development. The successful candidate will have: • A proven record of achievement at senior level that demonstrates the necessary vision and capacity to contribute strategically to the overall leadership of the Department’s work; • A strong track record of leadership in governance, HR and financial management roles with a proven high level of management and organisational skills; • The capacity to manage and deliver effectively, working with a diverse and multi-disciplinary team; • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills with an ability to build effective relationships internally and externally at a senior level with key state agencies and other stakeholders; • A clear understanding, or the capacity to quickly develop a clear understanding, of the diverse range of business activities led by the Department and key interfaces between these activities and the wider economic and social context.
