Reporting to the Head of Legal & Regulation, Bord Gais Energy, and based in Dublin the Data Governance Lead has overall day to day responsibility for Data Governance within Bord Gais Energy. Drawing on wider Centrica policies and standards, this individual is responsible for the development and implementation of the company’s Data Governance Strategy, will manage a small local Data Governance team and will be a key BGE contact point with the Centrica Group Data Governance team. Key Accountabilities. The successful candidate will demonstrate key leadership and management qualities to support the position and responsibility of managing the increasing data protection risks facing consumer facing businesses like BGE. They will also possess excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to demonstrate strong emotional intelligence and sound judgement. The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include: Review and enhance current data governance arrangements, including structures, policies, standards & procedures and data catalogues to ensure the organisation is well positioned to meet its on-going objectives in data governance, its new obligations under GDPR as well as new and existing national data protection legislation and Centrica policies (“Data Governance Obligations”). Work collaboratively with colleagues to define BGEs overall Data Strategy, advising as to how to ensure it is aligned with our Data Governance Obligations. Take responsibility for implementing an appropriate Staff Training and Awareness programme including engaging with learning team to ensure learning content supplied centrally is appropriate for the Irish jurisdiction and supplementing with local briefings where required. Acquiring and maintaining a good working knowledge of the BGE IT landscape – particularly the IT systems/applications/hardware used by BGE and which contain personal or sensitive commercial data. Manage all data protection related queries, breaches/complaints, notifications to the DPC and DPC investigations with input and support from appropriate colleagues. Assist in devising and implementing an efficient process for meeting our obligations under GDPR to comply with subject access requests and requests under the “right to be forgotten” and play an advisory and supervisory role going forward in meeting such requests. Manage 3rd party data governance audits and reviews and where appropriate manage third party consultants we may engage to conduct such reviews. Assist in devising an appropriate process for data protection risk assessments of projects post GDPR and play an advisory role in such assessments. Advise and provide guidance to the business on the implementation of record retention schedules, archiving and purging policies. Identify and report to senior management all material data governance risks that arise from time to time and assist in mitigation of risk where appropriate. Raise awareness of new law or policy evolving at EU or national levels and/or guidelines issued by DPC that may impact BGEs business or increase our risk of data issues. Raise awareness amongst staff and devise mitigation plans for any particular data protection risks that BGE may be exposed to as a result of external factors or fraudulent activity at any given time. Collaborate with IT colleagues on InfoSec activities as appropriate. Manage a small data governance team and the data governance budget. Develop and maintain strong business relationships with each business area. Any other duties assigned from time to time. The role will be based in Dublin but will require some travel to the UK and possibly other destinations. Knowledge, Skills and Experience. Bachelor's degree in IT, business, or a relevant field. 5-7 years' experience in a similar role with an emphasis on data governance and compliance, an advantage.
