The Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection has a vacancy for a candidate for the position of Chief Medical Officer (CMO). Reporting to the Secretary General, the role offers an opportunity for the right individual to contribute to a programme of change, in terms of service delivery and policy development in the area of welfare and employment supports for people with restricted capacity to work. The CMO is responsible for the leadership of the Medical Review and Assessment Service which comprises a multi-disciplinary team of medical assessors based around the country. This team is responsible for assessing the work/occupation capacity of people claiming, or in receipt of, illness/disability payments. The person appointed will be a member of the Management Board of the Department. S/he will be required to contribute to a major transformation process in relation to access, assessment for and review of entitlement to illness payments. The ideal candidate will have: • Full registration with the Medical Council, or eligibility for full registration; • Significant post-qualification experience; • Membership or Fellowship of a relevant clinical field; • Experience in the field of Disability Evaluation Medicine.
