Description

The Office of the State Pathologist (OSP) is an agency under the aegis of the Department of Justice, providing independent expert advice on all matters pertaining to forensic pathology.  The Office delivers a nationwide, 24/7, year round service throughout the Republic of Ireland. The main activity of the OSP is the performance of post mortem examinations in cases of sudden, unexplained death where a criminal or suspicious element is present. In approximately 15 – 20% of cases, this also involves a scene visit.   The Chief State Pathologist will lead the OSP through regular administrative meetings and interactions with all staff.  The successful candidate will be responsible for completing annual reports, risk registers and performance delivery agreements following oversight interactions with the Department of Justice.    The Chief State Pathologist will deal with complex policy and management issues, including press queries and parliamentary questions, and provide comprehensive and appropriate answers in a timely fashion.
