Director General - The Law Society of Ireland  The Law Society of Ireland has representative, regulatory and educational functions in respect of the solicitors’ profession in Ireland. It is governed by a Council, comprised of elected and nominated members of the solicitors’ profession. The Society is at a point in its evolution where it is facing substantial change and re-orientation. The Law Society now wishes to appoint a Director General (DG) who will work closely with the President of the Society, will report to Council and, will run the day to day business of the Society. The DG is the Chief Executive of the Law Society and will manage the overall operations of the Society. They will ensure the requisite strategies, policies and practices are in place and implemented for the Society to fulfil its role to the very highest standard. Your principal accountabilities will be to: • Lead the management and staff in the running of the Society, provide clear leadership and direction to the senior management team and maintain a positive operational climate within the organisation. • Further develop and build on relationships with the members of the Society, key partners and stakeholders. • Develop and enhance the representative, educational and regulatory roles of the Society. • Actively engage with the solicitors’ profession in relation to the values and policies of the Society. • Maintain and enhance the financial reserves of the Society whilst developing and exploring new revenue streams. • Lead the way in providing guidance to members on the transformative impact of new technologies. • Champion diversity and inclusion to deliver real change. You should have: • Leadership and managerial skills to develop an efficient and effective organisation that is outward looking and focused on performance and results. • High standards of personal integrity and, commitment to building trust and effective working relationships. • Extensive experience of working successfully in public affairs with all relevant stakeholders. • The ability to communicate and engage with and, advocate on behalf of the solicitors’ profession and the Law Society. • A high level of communication skills for authoritative and clear messaging, in a range of situations and sometimes in challenging interactions with print and broadcast media. • An understanding of the legal profession allied to a knowledge and experience of regulated environments. • A commitment to diversity and inclusion at all levels.
