Description

The Attorney General is the advisor of the Government in matters of law and legal opinion and a Constitutional Officer. The Office, therefore, is the central legal service of the State, providing advice and draft legislation and supervising the conduct of litigation involving the State.   The role of an Advisory Counsel is to assist and advise the Attorney General in carrying out his function and involves a very wide range of legal work of major public importance. Advisory Counsel are currently divided into five separate groups, each having responsibility for providing legal advice on a number of specific areas of law. Each of these groups is managed by an Advisory Counsel Grade I, who is responsible for the allocation and monitoring of work within a group.     The successful candidate will:   have been called to the Bar and be enrolled as a Barrister in the State or have been admitted and be enrolled as a Solicitor in the State,    and.   have practised as a Barrister or Solicitor in the State for not less than eight years.   S/he will also:   • Have excellent analytical abilities and an excellent knowledge of legal principles and be able to express ideas clearly both orally and in writing.   • Have sound judgement and the commitment and attention to detail that is required by most aspects of legal advisory work.   • Have excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to network effectively and to influence others.   • Have a thorough knowledge of how a Government law office operates.   This is a Top Level Appointments Committee position.    Further information including details on how to apply is available on www.publicjobs.ie.   If you feel you would benefit from a confidential discussion, please contact Eamonn Purcell on Eamonn.purcell@publicjobs.ie    The closing date for receipt of completed applications is 15:00 on Thursday 25th February, 2021.   We are committed to a policy of equal opportunity and encourage applications under all nine grounds of the Employment Equality Act.
