The Courts Service is an independent State Agency established by the Courts Service Act, 1998. Our mission is to support the judiciary and provide excellent services to all users of the courts thereby facilitating access to justice. A long term strategic vision for the future of the Courts Service sets out our plan to re-design services around court users, leveraging digital technology to streamline services and ultimately delivering a modern court system. The role of a judicial assistant attached to the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal or High Court is to provide assistance to a judge in the carrying out of their judicial function.  This includes providing support with court going activities, research and administration. Being a judicial assistant offers those at the early stages of their legal career a unique insight and  knowledge of the day to day running of the courts.   As a judicial assistant you will gain invaluable exposure to court practice and procedure, legislation, litigation, decision making from the perspective of a judge, and an insight of the workings of the public service. This experience is proven to benefit career progression in the legal field.  Being a judicial assistant offers a rare opportunity to work closely alongside a member of the judiciary, as well as the opportunity to develop one’s own professional network. The information learned is transferable and beneficial to many different careers including going to the bar, starting a traineeship, progressing with further academia or joining the civil service. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Hold (or expect to hold) at least a 2.1 in a law degree at a minimum of level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications in their final year exams. • Have a good understanding of the work of the Irish courts system. • Have a knowledge of modern legal research methods and materials. • Have some experience conducting legal research (this can include academic research or research in the course of court case preparation.
