Description

Electrical Engineer - HV/MV. The company is a leading, independent renewable energy company, with circa 10,000 MW of global energy projects under development & with over 700MW under construction & commercial operation. This role will form a key part of the company's dynamic team, based in Dublin. Role Description. Their cable systems are cooled with cryogenic fluids to -200°C enabling loss free electrical transmission. The system comprises a unique combination of mechanical, electrical & process engineering disciplines. You will work with the engineering team & partners to develop electrical integration aspects of a superconductor cable system from concept to qualification: Detailed design & testing of a world-first prototype system. Design of pre-commercial, scaled demonstration projects. Commercial techno-economic analyses. Engage with relevant working groups from the renewable energy, power generation & transmission industries. Collaborate with leading universities & institutes in significant R&D work. Work in partnership with electrical transmission & switchgear OEMs in R&D work. Key responsibilities: Undertake research and development studies of the superconducting cable system design for integration with electrical power grids & offshore wind farms. Perform detailed electrical design surrounding the protection & control of the superconducting cable system using power system modelling software. Analysis of the integration challenges involving conventional OEM equipment & superconductor cable systems. Undertake electrical design & functional requirement specification for relevant components of the superconductor cable system. Analysis, development & presentation of technical proposals & reports. Engage with senior management on the development of the superconductor cable system technology. Skills required: A master's degree in Electrical Engineering. Experience with power system modelling software PSCAD or similar (essential. Strong knowledge of Voltage Source Converter (VSC) transmission technology.
