Academic Support Specialist. Department: IR0015 Library. Reporting to: DBS Head of Academic Information and Resource Centre. DBS seeks candidates for the position of Academic Support Specialist. This is a leadership position within a national award winning Academic Information & Resource Centre (AIRC). Under the direction of the Head of AIRC, this role leads the strategy and manages operations for the Reader Services division.  The ideal candidate will be forward-thinking, flexible, outcome-focused, and responsive to faculty and student needs. They will contribute to existing services while helping to identify and develop new opportunities and collaborations. The Academic Support Specialist is responsible for all aspects of the delivery of the AIRC’s user services, ensuring an excellent standard of customer service in person and online.  Salary: €38,000. Location: Dublin. Working Hours: Monday-Friday, 39 Hours per Week. Responsibilities :  As a member of the AIRC leadership team, contribute to the broader AIRC strategy development with particular focus on Reader Services as we work to achieve our strategic objective to be a dynamic function that provides flexible access to information and innovation resources. Develop, implement, and lead the Reader Services division strategy including reference, circulation, reading room, events, and outreach with the goal of increasing awareness of and engagement with, AIRC services and growing high value interactions in an increasingly multimodal learning environment with learners on and off campus, including transnationally. Build relationships with faculty and course directors to ensure students and faculty are maximising the value offered by the AIRC services. Overall responsibility for a busy reference desk service (in-person, phone, email, chat, Zoom) in terms of staffing and student satisfaction. Overall responsibility for circulation including lending, returns, fine collection, etc. Provide research advice and guidance for students, faculty, and staff using the AIRC’s resources, services, and facilities. Identify and implement new resources, services, processes, or technologies which enhance the user experience or save staff time and reduce cost. Work in partnership with faculty and other DBS departments to anticipate and meet student needs. Develop content (guides, FAQs, videos, etc.) for the AIRC website including subject portals. Collecting, analysing, and reporting usage and reference statistics  Representation of the AIRC on College boards and committees. Other tasks and activities as required. Characteristics. An innovative and strategic thinker with a focus on maximizing user experience and value on investment. A team player who is also able to work independently and adapt to a changing environment. Knowledge of current trends and developments in reader services affecting higher education. Excellent interpersonal skills. Requirements  A qualified information professional with 3 years of professional experience, including a proven track record in Reader Services. Desirable. Experience leading and managing a team.
