Assistant Engineering Inspector Salary : €68,491 to €83,525. Background to Section / Role  The Roads Capital Programme and Regional Management department is responsible for the delivery of the Roads, Active Travel programme and the Greenways Capital programme. This is delivered on a regional basis by a Regional Management team led by the respective Regional Manager. The teams are responsible for the management, promotion, and delivery of the projects in their regions. This includes responsibility for the National Regional Offices (NROs) and Project offices and delivery of the roads, active travel, and greenway projects with the assistance of the Local Authorities.  The department is responsible for the delivery of Major projects as set out in the NDP 2021 to 2030 in accordance with the TII Project Management Guidelines, processes, and procedures. In addition, the Regional managers support the delivery of all other capital projects in their region including Greenways, minor realignments, pavement, safety schemes and design and construction of sections of the cycling network.  The portfolio management unit supports the Regional Management teams in the overall co-ordination of the various programmes. The unit is also responsible for stakeholder engagement and internal co-ordination with the various units in TII. The unit supports delivery and is responsible for updating documentation, processes, and procedures necessary for effective delivery of the road programmes. In addition, this unit oversees the Greenway programme and is responsible for progressing the National Cycling Strategy.  The successful candidate, under the direction of the Senior Engineering Inspector in Portfolio Management, will contribute to supporting the transition of Capital projects to more sustainable, planning design and delivery.  Role and Responsibilities. Specific responsibilities include:  Assist in the delivery of and reporting on the capital programme such as minors, pavement, safety, greenways and active travel  programmes.  Assist in the development of cycling and walking infrastructure.  Contribute to the development of guidance, plans and polices in the areas of sustainability, carbon reduction and circular economy.  Coordinate with the NROs and Local Authorities to support programme delivery.   Interface with other units as requested by the line manager to identify areas of relevance that impact delivery of the capital programmes.   Brief and report to the Senior Engineering Inspectors and Portfolio Manager as required. Inspect construction activities and quality plans as requested. Review and summarise reports for other units that impact on the management of the roads, active travel and greenways capital programme  Review departmental publications, summaries and identify relevant deliverables as requireed  Actively manage documentation systems and procedural compliance for the Portfolio Sn Engineering Inspector and Manager as required  Review submissions referred on for comment under the electronic data management system (EDMS)  Source project deliverables as instructed, review and submit the reports with comments to the line manager.  Engage with specific projects/ carry out specific tasks (incl. provision/co-ordination of data) as required  Support the GIS system in relation to projects.  Education & Experience. The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate the key competencies for a Grade 2 position as identified in Appendix A, as well as the following job-specific requirements:  Degree or third level professional qualification (NFQ Level 8 or equivalent) in Engineering. 5 years’ experience in civil engineering  Be a Chartered Engineer with Engineers Ireland or be professionally registered at an equivalent level with an equivalent organisation, or be in a position to attain registration within two years from appointment to the position.  Experience in the design and/or delivery of infrastructure projects. Technical awareness of road and active travel engineering and project delivery  A high standard of technical training, analytical skills and IT proficiency. An ability to lead and motivate others to deliver objectives. A strong commitment to road safety, public safety and to the safety of those working for TII and on behalf of TII.
