The role of the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht is to promote and protect Ireland’s culture and heritage. Within the Department, the National Parks and Wildlife Service is primarily responsible for formulation and implementation of policy and legislation relating to nature conservation and biodiversity. The Department currently has a vacancy for an Aquatic/Wetlands Ecologist (Species Specialist. Reporting to a Wildlife Inspector Grade II, the successful candidate will: • Manage existing survey, monitoring and other work relating to protected aquatic/wetlands invertebrate fauna and their habitats; • Initiate, develop and implement new survey, monitoring and other work relating to protected aquatic/wetlands invertebrate fauna; • Provide national expertise and advice on the ecology and conservation requirements of aquatic/wetlands invertebrate fauna and on related issues.
